Our Story
Mr. Shaun Young is qualified as a Radiographer and a Sonographer. He possesses 27 years of experience in the medical imaging field. He started this journey at the Kingstown General Hospital (KGH), now Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, as a Student Radiographer for 3 years. Shaun left the government service and was employed as a Junior Radiographer at the Caribbean Medical Imaging Center, owned by Dr Rosalind Ambrose, Consultant Radiologist at the KGH Hospital. Shaun formalized his radiography training from 1999 – 2002 at COSTTAT College of Science, Technology, and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago. During this time, he was rotated to every hospital in Trinidad and was exposed to training at the St.Michael’s Hospital and Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto Canada.
Mr. Young returned to St. Vincent in June 2002 and rejoined the Caribbean Medical Imaging Center as Chief Medical Imaging Technologist. He practiced and assisted a Cardiologist by performing echocardiography at the Caribbean Medical Imaging Center which piqued his interest in ultrasound imaging. He formalized his ultrasound training in 2005 with Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge UK (Distance Learning), under the direct supervision of Consultant Radiologist, Dr. R. E. Ambrose. Shaun continued his employment at Caribbean Medical Imaging Center, as a sonographer in 2007, performing 75% of ultrasound examinations at this facility.
Mr Young and his wife Simone started an ultrasound business in February 2016 that catered to performing portable ultrasounds at home and doctors’ offices. This was the birth of SonoSVG Ultrasound Services. SonoSVG found permanent residence in New Montrose and affiliated itself with the Women’s Health Centre, Dr Lorna Vergara. Mr. Young shared a small cubicle at the Women’s Health Centre and soon after a separate room. In 2017, SonoSVG moved into yet an even bigger space.
Mr Young also worked part-time at different medical facilities in St. Vincent. In 2017, he worked part time offering both ultrasound and X-ray services to Integrated Medical Care, and also in 2019 for a short stint, offered Ultrasound services to Health Solutions.
Shaun Young formally left the Caribbean Medical Imaging Center and started full-time with SonoSVG Ultrasound Services in June 2019. The name was changed to SonoSVG Imaging Services to accommodate the expansion of services as X-ray imaging was added and performed at home and in the office.
SonoSVG Imaging Services moved to its latest location in April 2021 at Beachmont and offers quality ultrasound and X-ray Services with a comfortable modern office.
A teleradiology company based in the USA reports all X-ray examinations done at SonoSVG Imaging Services. They also provide Radiology reports for X-rays, MRI, and CT scans done at other Imaging centers. Reports are normally provided within 2 – 3 hours.
The island of Bequia also benefits from X-ray and Ultrasound examinations as Mr. Young travels to this island every Saturday and conducts a clinic there. Ultrasounds and X-rays are performed and reports are offered to patients.
SonoSVG Imaging Services is thrilled to announce the arrival of our brand-new, state-of-the-art digital mammography machine. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality imaging services to our patients, and this cutting-edge technology allows us to enhance our breast imaging capabilities further.
Digital mammography is a significant advancement in breast cancer screening and diagnosis. It utilizes digital detectors to capture high-resolution images of the breast, offering improved image quality and more accurate results compared to traditional film-based mammography. Digital technology enables radiologists to manipulate and enhance the images, enhancing their ability to detect subtle abnormalities and potential signs of breast cancer.
The acquisition of this new digital mammography machine reaffirms our commitment to staying at the forefront of medical imaging technology. It represents a substantial investment in the health and well-being of our patients, as early detection of breast cancer can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
